This series of digital images (from 2014) represent the photographer and architectural historian Ali Rad Yousefnia’s visual travelogues of Persepolis (or the City of the Persians), the capital of the ancient Achaemenid Empire (c. 550-350 BCE), now located in Fars in Iran. Yousefnia’s images renew the nostalgic past through the medium of digital photography. A self-taught, freelance photographer, Yousefnia possesses a doctorate in architectural design and history from the University of Queensland. Although his enthusiasm for photography was sparked in childhood, his career in professional photography only commenced during his years of tertiary education. He held his first solo photography exhibition in 2011 at Tabriz in Iran. After moving overseas to undertake a master’s degree at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Ali contributed to projects and publications such as “Diamonds in Sahara”, “SOS Brutalism”, and “Keeping It Modern”, an METU Project supported by a grant from the Getty Foundation (2015-2018).
